ON-LINE-STORE NOW OPEN AND RUNNING!!!!

All the plants currently in stock, plus some that are up and coming, are now in the shop, together with the soaps, candles and most other products. Bear with us for pictures - as the plants come to maturity and flower we are taking their photo and uploading - but it will take a season to get everything "snapped".

Customers can now buy and pay on-line for the plants and things they want, without the hassle of having to send a cheque. Payment, through Paypal, is secure and straightforward. Visit the store today and see how it's coming on! In the interim period, the full catalogue remains on-line. Of course we will continue to accept cheques as well!

News from the Nursery

We have expanded the nursery area again, despite complaints from the bees that we are encroaching on their territory. (What they don't know is that next season a whole new site is being planned for them). On a rare "free" weekend, we moved, extended and re-skinned the polytunnel. It was, unfortunately, a very, very hot weekend, and many drinks breaks were required before completing.

Here is a picture of the job not particularly in progress:

For the past five years, the polytunnel has been host to a family of frogs who have helped with controlling the legions of slugs which can make mincemeat of an organic nursery. We thought they would have run a mile with all the disruption, but a week later, what did I find guarding the Russian Sages?

Slug Control is restored in the polytunnel!

NURSERY OPEN!!!!

Now that the bulk of the renovations are complete, we have decided to open the nursery four days a week to allow people to visit and select their own plants. We remain strapped for parking space and trust me a coach trying to get up Smiths Brae would be there rotting for all eternity (but could make an excellent greenhouse), so unless you are disabled, please park in Main Street and walk up. There will be someone there Sunday to Wednesday until the end of September, except for a few days from 21st - 23rd August, when the experts will be absent on plant-hunting; not the best time to call.

Forthcoming Events

GARDEN NEWS

Its all heat and harvest. The heat has prevented us from keeping on top of the weeds, so there is a lot of work to do at present. Fruit crops are especially large this year, and the freezer is full already. My Scarlet Emperor Runner Beans are producing copious supplies, as are the courgettes, sugar peas and spinach beet. Huge numbers of bumble bees and hoverflies are around, as are the first, rather early wasps. It's buzzing, you could say.

We have cut the lawn, a bit, and might get round to edging it, one day....

Margaret Lear, 4.8.06.
