Happy New Year!
There isn't much news from the nursery just yet; except that today, exceptionally spring like, I noted several perennials coming into new growth, and the grapefruit mint was still in flower. In the greenhouse (unheated), Rosemary Blue Rain and Lavender Kew Red stock plants are both in full bloom and looking very fetching. Despite this unseasonal activity, we had some deliciously spectacular frosts over Christmas, and there is snow on the hills... but none in Bankfoot, yet. Seed sowing has started, and thanks to our new neighbours we have another greenhouse in the process of going up as I write, which was surplus to their requirements. Just as well, as Andrew keeps cluttering up mine with pretty little (largely inedible) alpines.
In the Garden.....
....my new bantam hens skulk behind and up trees and have yet to lay any eggs. Heavey rains produce the usual mudbath. The charred remains of the bonfire we had on Midwinter's Night are being picked over by the cat, for no apparent reason. Spinach beet continues to supply some greens. The garlic has been planted.
Plans for next year!
The nursery will re-open Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9ish to 5ish, the first week in April, and at other times by appointment. Slight change in time because I'm doing some lecturing on Mondays, and its also a day I have to get all the plants sorted from weekend markets, so not ideal for opening. A reminder that our first One Day Workshop will be on 31st March in Perth Library Meeting Room (see Courses), and we still plan to have a Nursery Open Day in April or May, with demonstrations, swap-shop, herbal refreshments etc.
My big issue at present is computer technology - my lack of it coupled with a growing realisation that it eats your life. This isn't good if you just want to grow, talk about and sell plants. One planned improvement will be to upgrade the webhosting package we are on, to one which will better support the complexities of the online store and permit me access and speed with which to update it without hours of frustrations. My guess is if you are reading this online, you will be amazed at my ignorance and irritation with IT. Well, as I've said before, any assistance will be welcome!! As for me, I'm off to the greenhouse....
